Where should I dispose the cat litter?

Where to place the cat litter box can influence more than you think. Does your cat not use the litterbox? Have you placed the litter box in the first place you have seen? Do you think your cat feels unsafe or uncomfortable while using the litter box?

In this article we are going to explain the importance of the place where to place the cat’s litter box and what factors you should take into account when choosing.

Security

Cats need to feel calm and safe every time they go to the bathroom. Like humans, they also want privacy for these purposes.

If you have been lucky and the cat got used to using the litter box where you have left it, do not change the bathroom. They are animals of customs and territorial so, if they are already comfortable with the chosen place, it is better that you leave it there.

If you see that your cat is rather insecure or fearful, in addition to following these recommendations we leave you a blog in which we explain the reasons why a closed litter box may be the best option for them.

Away from other áreas

It is essential that your cat’s litter box is away from the place where they usually eat and sleep. Whenever possible and the conditions of the house allow it, we must define differentiated spaces for each of these routines. In this way the cat will feel comfortable without the presence of food while it is in the bathroom or vice versa.

Ease of access

Bath time is one of the most tense moments for cats, as they feel insecure and vulnerable. They need to be able to control their surroundings and, in case of fright, that they can escape from the bathroom without causing a mess. This is why it is so important to have easy access to the litter box. What does this mean? That we must be sure that the chosen litter box is the best for the cat without doors if they do not feel comfortable and in a room or space to which they always have access at any time of day.

Peaceful place

Last but not least, make sure that the place chosen to house the litter box is quiet. That is, if possible avoid corridors or areas of the house that are constantly entering and leaving people. In addition, the room chosen to place the litter box must have good ventilation, be cool and be as clean as possible

Do you want to know what are the places where litter boxes are most often located?

The places most frequented by families with cats are undoubtedly terraces or galleries, bathrooms or auxiliary rooms.

It is important to bear in mind that none of these places where to place the litter box will make sense if we do not do a good cleaning of its litter  and we choose the right type for the cat.
